Slow Switzerland ("we", "us", "our") respects your privacy. This policy explains what personal data we collect when you visit slowswitzerland.com, why we collect it, and the rights you have under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP).

Who is responsible for your data Slow Switzerland is the controller responsible for the personal data described below. If you have any question about this policy or how your data is handled, contact us at koen@slowswitzerland.com.

Newsletter If you sign up for our newsletter, we store the name and email address you provide so we can send you occasional stories and travel inspiration. We only use this for the newsletter itself — we never sell or share it with advertisers. You can ask us to remove you at any time by emailing koen@slowswitzerland.com.

Trip planner When you use the trip planner, the preferences you enter, such as destination, travel dates, pace, interests, and any places you've added to your trip basket, are sent to Anthropic's Claude AI service to generate your personalised itinerary. This data, together with the generated result, is stored in our database so we can show you your itinerary and improve the planner. We keep planner data for up to 24 months, after which it is deleted.

Trip basket The places you add to your trip basket while browsing are stored only in your own browser (using local storage) and are never sent to our servers unless you submit them through the trip planner. Clearing your browser data removes this list.

Cookies and similar technologies We do not use advertising or analytics cookies. A session cookie is set only when an editor logs into the site's admin area, visitors browsing the public site do not receive one. Pages on the site load fonts from Google Fonts and map tiles from OpenStreetMap; loading these resources may expose your IP address to those providers under their own privacy policies.

Legal basis for processing We process newsletter sign-ups and trip planner requests on the basis of your consent, given when you submit the relevant form. You may withdraw this consent at any time, without affecting the lawfulness of processing carried out before the withdrawal.

Who we share data with We share the minimum data necessary with the following service providers, each acting under their own privacy terms: Anthropic (processes trip planner input to generate itineraries), Google (serves the site's fonts), and the OpenStreetMap Foundation (serves map tiles). We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it with advertisers.

Your rights Under the GDPR and FADP, you have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data, to object to or restrict our processing, and to receive your data in a portable format. To exercise any of these rights, email koen@slowswitzerland.com. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority or, in Switzerland, with the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC).

Data security We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data against unauthorised access, loss, or misuse. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Children This website is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

Changes to this policy We may update this privacy policy from time to time. The version published on this page is always the current one.
