Fräkmüntegg sits at 1,416 metres, the middle station on the ascent of Mount Pilatus from Kriens, reached by gondola in about half an hour by way of Krienseregg. Here the mountain shows its playful side. A summer toboggan run drops 1,350 metres through curves, jumps and kite holes at speeds up to 40 kilometres an hour, open from April to October whenever the track is dry. A free treetop walkway threads through the forest canopy, and a rope park offers eleven courses of varying difficulty alongside a Powerfan freefall simulator.
Overnight guests can sleep in a tree tent suspended above the forest floor, with dinner grilled at the barbecue area known as Dragon Alp. The self-service restaurant serves Rösti in four variations, including a spiced house version. From here, the Dragon Ride aerial tramway continues to Pilatus Kulm in four minutes.
